The Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman has gone and confirmed Michonne and Eugene’s survival while addressing the future of the series.

While Michonne (Danai Gurira) made her exit back in season 10, fans were left convinced that the character would be returning to the franchise in the Rick Grimes (Andrew Lincoln) movies.

Meanwhile, Eugene’s (Josh McDermitt) fate was left undetermined after he broke away from the group with King Ezekiel (Khary Payton) and Yumiko (Eleanor Matsuura) on a hunt to find his potential lover.

The trio has since encountered newcomer Princess (Paola Lázaro) on their search, who appears to be leading them into danger.

But as we remain uncertain about what will become of our heroes, the man behind the comic books believes Michonne and Eugene are in good hands and will make it to the end of the series.

During a Q&A with Hey Fandom! (via ComicBook), the 41-year-old said: ‘I will say that there’s a lot of implied story in the final issue, with the railroad meeting, and the colony to the West uniting with the colony to the East.

‘There’s some general thoughts and notions that I have for that.’

‘If the television show ever gets to that point in the comic book series, and we decide to continue past that point,’ he continued. ‘I’m kind of excited about the idea of telling a little bit more with older Eugene and Judge Michonne and the different things that were in the comic series that could have gone on, and we could have done more with.’

The fandom is currently waiting for the season 10 finale to drop after the coronavirus pandemic brought production to a swift half in order to stall the spread of Covid-19.

And showrunner, Angela Kang, has teased what’s to come in the next instalment of the zombie hit when chatting to Entertainment Weekly.

She said: ‘Obviously we’ve got this new power group of four, with Princess and Ezekiel and Eugene and Yumiko, that is off on the road, and so we are going to see some interesting turns in that.

‘And then the big story that we have been following all season with the Whisperers. Now that Alpha is gone and Beta is having to step up into that leadership role — with his kinda half-Alpha and Beta face — we’re going to see our people take their stand against Beta and the Whisperers.’

The Walking Dead’s season 10 finale is expected to drop on AMC and NOW TV later this year.
